EKG Monitoring

An electrocardiogram (EKG) is a simple, non-invasive test that records the electrical activity of the heart. At Arkansas Family Medicine, in-office EKG testing is available to help evaluate heart health as part of routine physicals and ongoing chronic disease management, giving your care team useful information without the need for a separate outside appointment.

What an EKG Can Help Evaluate

  • Heart rhythm — checks for irregular or unusually fast or slow heartbeats.
  • Heart rate — measures how quickly the heart is beating at rest.
  • General cardiac function — provides a baseline snapshot that can be tracked over time as part of ongoing care.

When It's Typically Used

  • Physicals — often included as part of school, work, travel, or DOT physical exams.
  • Chronic disease management — used to monitor patients being treated for heart-related or other chronic conditions.
  • Vitals review — considered alongside blood pressure and other vitals monitoring already performed on site.

If your provider recommends an EKG during a visit, it can typically be performed the same day, right in our office, with results reviewed as part of your overall care plan.
